I’ve noticed a few listing their GMMG’s as Double COPO cars.

COPO cars in the late ‘60’s were ‘Central Office Production Order’ direct from GM & many were sold thru Fred Gibb.

Do you think a the term for a GMMG as a Double COPO is correct?

Some claim their GMMG's are COPO or double COPO.

Here's their thinking................. The car went to SLP for the 35th Anniversary Package & then to GMMG for the upgrades.

Does this make it a Double COPO?

What you say?

Is it even worth discussing?

The COPO name has never had anything to do with GMMG's & anyone advertising their GMMG's as a COPO is misinforming anyone looking at the listing & they should be informed they are wrong. Until someone proves me wrong this is my position.

Search Facebook 'GMMG Enthusiast' for more information.

There are so many people that don't have a clue about GMMG's & when false information is out there in print to see many buy into it.

My 2 cents.

They are two different things. Not even worth discussing IMO.

I agree that it is just trying to streeeetch the specialty of the GMMG cars way too thin. NEVER had a thing to do with a COPO. I do not think the COPO office was still in existence then was it?

I did a little digging and spoke wth Scott Settlemire, there is no such thing as a COPO fourth generation Camaro. PERIOD............. End of discussion -- here's the answer from Scott.

I've been a GM guy for A LOT more years than I can remember. I remember when the COPO cars were new, but for the life of me, I don't remember what or if there was something special indicated on the build sheet or whether they were all just ordered with certain options by dealers like Nickey, etc. I guess that engine code would be called out on the build sheet, but there were dealers installed 427's that were called COPO cars.

With that being said, I agree with Andrew that there is no relationship with anything other than the cars being GMMG cars only.

No . . . B4C is a RPO, a Regular Production Order, by that logic any Camaro with a RPO designation is a COPO.

My thinking agrees with Andrew's. I don't see anyway a GMMG could be a COPO. Why would B4C's be COPO's? This could be an interesting discussion?

COPO cars came from and were upgraded at GM. Once they left GM they went to GMMG and basically GM was done with them. IMO

I know this thread is older and seems resolved, but I do remember Matt telling me in 2008 he wanted to distinguish his cars from "drop ship" competitors (SLP inferred) and used COPO 9831 to order/ start with an initial 50 BlackBirds for Carl Black.(He said, 9830 was for the Intimidator cars) He was quite animated and wound up that day, Oct 31, the day of the visit (My wife was annoyed at me for being late getting home and missing handing out candy). Maybe he was having an off day.

I have repeated that info before, but it was not to increase any "mystique" about my car, I took it as fact considering the source.
