PE #28 SOM

Jan. 5, 2013 update - the trucker just called & the car will be here tonight. Can't wait.

December 14, 2012 - Thanks for the heads up from 'super 26' (Jeff) on PE #28

I bought the car today & it will be joining the Jim Smith Collection. I'm hoping to have it by Christmas.

I spoke with the original owner, he was very nice, very helpful & sent me this photo with the GMMG Wheels. Thanks.

The first thing I will be doing is installing the correct wheels.

Car has 44k miles BUT only 5k on the engine upgrade that was done in 2007 @ GMMG

PE #28 is joining the collection

I have always liked SOM, owned Firehawk #1221 (SOM/Tan) with 5k miles - sold it to a collector in Moca, Puerto Rico & always wished I hadn't.

Awesome Jim, I have heard of this car and I actually think I heard about it from Matt when we were discussing the package for my car. My first 4rth Gen was a 2001 SOM SS (no SLP options), I too miss that car and wish I never sold it. I think SOM is my favorite 4rth gen color!

So what wheels were correct for this car? the 35th wheels? because it was a PE car or the "base" 10 spoke painted wheels that was with the base SS package?

Congrats, I too can't wait to see and HEAR it!

Hmm want to trade??? haha

The "correct" wheels would be the American Racing Torque Thrust wheels as shown on the window sticker above.

Yes, I see the upgrade wheels but what would the wheels have been when it was built as a 380hp car? I think the 35th wheels would be so much more appropriate as it is a PE car. The upgrade Torque Thrust will look great too

I would guess that the original wheels that were on it when it was a 380 h.p. car "might have been" the stock SS wheels from 2002 unless the American Torque Thrust wheels were installed then and then were just carried over to the new window sticker when the engine upgrade was completed which I am willing to bet is what happened.

I spoke with the original owner this weekend & had a great conversation. I hope he joins the Forum & I'm sure he is enjoying his new ZL1. Jim

Wow, I love the SOM with those American Racing wheels but aren't those the 200S wheels not the Torque Thrusts? However, whatever wheels they are I love the look, especially with the "charcoal" painted centers. This has to be my favorite color/wheel combinations. I also want to say the previous owner has/had some good taste in vehicles, a GMC, 70 Z28 RS and an SOM GMMG 4rth gen, can't beat that!!
