I have had a few conversations with Valarie Harrell recently. We shared information & stories.
A tribute to Dick & Valarie Harrell.
I was going to post the history on Facebook, but it kept growing & growing & FB was not going to work so I am posting a Registry Forum thread. Please feel free to add your own info, stories & photos.
Thanks for sharing the photos.

The Dick Harrell Edition Camaro
Story time - In late 2003, just a few short months into my career as a young 3D artist, I received a call about a project being developed between Berger Chevrolet and GMMG Inc. Both companies were already well-known for their roles in building and selling ultra high-performance F-Bodies and they were cooking up a nice send off for the Camaro. GM had officially discontinued the Camaro and Firebird after the 2002 model year, but a handful of Camaros remained and a decision was made to do a run of special edition cars, built as a tribute to legendary drag racer Dick Harrell.
Development on the program was already underway when the team reached out to me for some assistance in rendering what would be the final design of the car. I was sent a handful of photos showing the development of the prototype. The Harrell cars would feature the same widebody kit, hood, and front end as the Sunoco Camaro that GM unveiled at the Woodward Dream Cruise in August of ‘02.
These cars would also include striping that would throw back to Dick Harrell’s drag cars of the late 60s and early 70s. I helped design the striping that would feature along the sides and hood and also helped the team decide which wheels would be used, with them ultimately running a Fikse Profil13 wheel as the standard wheel option.
In total, 30 numbered Dick Harrell edition cars were built, along with a handful of one-offs including the initial prototype and one convertible. There’s a ton more history to these and other GMMG cars, so give @GMMG_Registry a follow for more great F-Body content. Special thanks to Aaron Barnell for having me render his own DH #7 Camaro and the hard work he and the GMMG Registry folks are doing to preserve and celebrate these cars. I also wanted to shout out @themattavery for his outstanding journalism surrounding these cars as well. It was one of his YouTube videos that inspired me to revisit the renderings I originally did 20 years ago. Swipe to the end for the original renderings and photos of the prototype.
